How to get a headliner repair estimate

A little preparation gets you a faster, more accurate quote. Here's exactly what shops need from you.

The short answer: for the most accurate estimate, send a few clear photos (the whole liner, the worst area, and any sunroof), your vehicle year/make/model/trim, and a short description of the sagging and any water staining. Then request quotes from a few local shops and compare.

Prepare your quote request

  1. 1Take clear photos: the whole liner, the worst area, and any sunroof.
  2. 2Have your vehicle year, make, model, and trim ready.
  3. 3Describe where it sags and whether there's water staining or a musty smell.
  4. 4Note if you'd prefer mobile service or in-shop.
  5. 5Mention your timing — urgent, a few weeks, or just researching.

Photos to send for a faster quote

  • The whole headliner from the driver's seat, showing where it sags.
  • A close-up of the worst area (rear, sunroof edge, or a corner).
  • Any water stains, tears, or bubbling.
  • The sunroof opening and shade, if your vehicle has one.
  • A wide shot showing pillar trim and grab handles.

What affects the price

Vehicle size, whether there’s a sunroof, the material chosen, and how much trim must come out all drive the cost. Water damage adds a leak-repair step. A compact car with an intact board is quick; a large SUV or luxury vehicle with a panoramic roof takes longer.

Mobile vs in-shop

Small jobs and quotes can often be handled where your car is parked; a full board re-cover is usually done in-shop. Mention your preference when you request quotes.
